Advancement in Cub Scouting is especially important.  A Cub may earn his badge of rank at any point during the school year, and earn electives within that rank in addition to the badge of rank itself, he does not "cross over" until a special ceremony that Pack 4 holds in May, in conjunction with our Spring Family Camping weekend.

As many Cubs (and families) are new to camping, we camp in a "We'll do the hard stuff, You just have fun!" format.  Food is prepared by experienced Scout leaders and parents,  and accommodations are provided in cabins (those who wish may "pitch camp" in a separate area in their own tents).  Parents and siblings are encouraged to attend as well.  Just picture this as the largest family picnic you'll ever attend! This is also a good way to get accustomed to camping outdoors, with no homesickness or adjustment worries.

During the weekend, Cubs will participate in several learning experiences designed to introduce them to camping and cooking in a controlled surrounding, and some rank requirements that are more easily earned at camp.

The highlight of the weekend is a special ceremony where each Cub "crosses over" our symbolic bridge to advance to the next level of his Cub Scout experience.  He will surrender his neckerchief and slide before mounting the bridge, saluting the rest of the assembled Cubs, and descending to the other side, where his Den Leader will present him with a new neckerchief and slide indicating his new Cub Scout status.   See below for pictures of our most recent Spring Family Camp.
